Red Flag Day Park Party

Red Flag Day Park Party Itinerary:​

Our Park Parties will include 5 food truck vendors, Kids Water Safety make and take crafts from The Mitten Children's Museum, A Giant Water Blob to practice flip float and follow, throw ring toss, cornhole tournaments at the May and August Parties, Water Safety Education Booths with the US Coast Guard, MDNR, SHAES Dive Team, South Haven Ambassadors Program & Education, Safe Kids of Greater South Haven/Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium, Holland Ambassadors Program & Education and Featuring our Capture the RED Flag Tournament.

• Capture the Flag Tournament - Rules and Regulations 

  • Objective:

    • The objective of the Capture the Flag tournament is to capture the opposing team's flag while protecting one's own flag. 

  • Tournament Format: 

    • Timing: The tournament will take place on every third Saturday of the summer (May through September).

    • Eligibility: Teams composed of individuals aged 10 and above are eligible to participate.

    • Registration: Teams must register in advance for each tournament date.

    • Team Composition: Each team will consist of a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 10 players.

    • Process of Elimination: The tournament will follow a process of elimination, with the losing team being eliminated after each round until a final winner is determined in September.

    • Tournament Schedule: A schedule outlining the match-ups and play times for each team will be made available prior to each tournament date.

• Game Setup: 

  • Playing Area: Stanley Johnston Park-Game starts at 11am

  • Flags and Bases: Each team will have a designated flag and base area on their respective side of the playing area.  The playing area will be split down the middle.

  • Jail: Each team will designate a jail near their flag for opponents captured to stay for 15 minutes or until another team member rescues them.  Each jail should be large enough to accommodate the entirety of the other team should they all be captured.

  • Equipment: Teams will be responsible for bringing their own identifying flags and any necessary equipment (e.g., cones, bandanas, team shirts).  We will provide you with a “Red Flag” to decorate with your team at registration along with a gift bag for each team member.

  • Referees: Qualified referees will be present to enforce rules, monitor fair play, and resolve disputes.

• Game Rules: 

  • Objective: Each team must protect their own flag while attempting to capture the opposing team's flag and return it to their own base.

  • Team Play: Teams must work together to strategize and coordinate their efforts to capture the flag.

  • Tagging and Capture: A player can tag an opponent to temporarily remove them from the game. If a player is tagged while holding the opposing team's flag, the flag is returned to its original base.

  • Respect for Boundaries: Players must comply with the designated boundaries of the playing area. Stepping out of bounds will result in a penalty of 15 minutes removed from the game by the player who violated the boundaries.

  • Sportsmanship: Participants are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, respect all players, and referees, and abide by their judgments. No violence or touching of any kind will be tolerated. 

  • Time Limit: Each game will have a predetermined time limit of 1 hour, with the team capturing the flag the most times within the time limit declared as the winner.

  • Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie, an agreed-upon tiebreaker round will be played.​

• Grand Prize:

  • At the end of the tournament in September, the winning team will receive a grand prize of a lily pad from Outpost Sports.
